Variable weather conditions this winter should stabilize over the next month.

The previous couple of weeks has seen lower temperatures and increased rainfall across the Southeast region. But that is not expected to continue, said Pam Knox, University of Georgia Extension agricultural climatologist.

“The longer-term patterns that I have looked at look like we’re going to have this storm come through this week that will bring some more rain and potentially some severe weather. Probably the next week after that will be relatively cool, but the longer-term indicators indicate that we’re about to go into a warmer-than-usual and drier-than-usual pattern for the next few weeks after that second week in April. It could mean that we could be looking at a return to drier conditions,” Knox said.

According to weather.com, there is 98% chance of thunderstorms for Tifton, Georgia, on Thursday. The same storm system is expected to bring rainfall to Florida, with a high forecast for showers in Gainesville through Sunday.

Any rain would continue to alleviate the dry conditions currently being felt across the Southeast. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, moderately dry conditions are being experienced in southeastern Georgia and southwestern Florida. Abnormally dry conditions are observed in other areas of Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
