Much-needed rainfall this week across the Southeast has done little to alleviate the drought conditions in Florida, Georgia and Alabama, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Drought

The southern region of Florida remains mostly abnormally dry, though Highlands, Okeechobee, Indian River, Saint Lucie and parts of Martin, Palm Beach and Glades counties are moderately dry. Abnormally dry conditions are also observed in the southern counties along the Florida Panhandle, from Bay County to Levy County.

Abnormally dry conditions are also observed in both South Georgia and North Georgia. Multiple counties in South Georgia are either moderately dry or severely dry. The worst conditions are seen in McIntosh, Long, Liberty, Bryan, Chatham and Effingham counties in Southeast Georgia.

All of North Alabama is abnormally dry. The conditions stretch as far south as Randolph and Chambers counties along the Alabama-Georgia state line. Henry County is also abnormally dry in South Alabama, as are the southern regions of Mobile and Baldwin counties along the Gulf of Mexico.

Dry conditions remain in the eastern region of South Carolina. A severe drought is observed in Jasper and Beaufort counties. A few counties in the western region of the state are abnormally dry.

The eastern area of North Carolina is either mostly moderately dry or severely dry.
