Recent rainfall has helped alleviate some of the drought-like conditions being felt across the Southeast, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Severe Dry Conditions

The worse conditions remain concentrated in the Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia and Florida Panhandle area. A severe drought is being observed in Escambia County, Florida and stretches eastward to Hamilton and Suwanee counties in Florida and in Brooks and Lowndes counties in Georgia.

Most of Alabama remains either abnormally dry or moderately dry, though counties like Escambia, Covington, Geneva and Houston are severely dry in the southeastern corner of the state.

Abnormally dry conditions are present in most counties in Georgia, though moderate drought conditions are present in the southern and southeastern parts of the state.

Florida’s moderate dry conditions extend from Columbia and Baker counties to Levy County in the northern part of the state. Abnormally dry conditions are also present in Nassau County and extend to Marion and Citrus counties.
