2014 Small Farms Conference in Kissimmee, Florida on Friday and Saturday, July 1st and 2nd.The Panhandle Fruit and Vegetable Conference will take place on October 11 in Marianna, Florida. This is a University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Extension Team event. The conference is for Florida fruit and vegetable producers and stakeholders of Florida’s local food systems.

Jose Perez, small farm Extension coordinator for UF/IFAS, encourages interested individuals to register online before the deadline of October 6. On-site registration will be provided, but online registration is preferred.

img_8695Perez says that the conference is for beginner farmers as well as experienced growers. Topics will range from covering the basics of growing to the marketing aspects of farming. Farm diversification is being highly promoted at the event, he adds.

The conference also consists of two farm tours and a hands-on workshop. Richard Wiswall, author of The Organic Farmer’s Handbook: A Complete Guide to Managing Finances, Crops, and Staff — and Making a Profit, is the keynote speaker.
