Coming up on November 30 is the Cabbage Cole Crops Field Day, located at the Cowpen Branch Research Farm in Hastings, Florida. University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension agents and industry professionals will be covering a variety of topics — from nutrient and pest management to alternative cropping. Crops covered will include cabbage, potatoes and other cole crops.
Extension specialist Bonnie Wells encourages growers to come out and participate in the hands-on field day. There will be presentations on current research projects, and attendees will visit many different research test plots throughout the day.
Some of the research topics will include: nitrogen rates, calibration of sprayers, planting times, utilization of plasticulture, crop rotation and alternative weed management.
Registration is free and starts on site at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. For further information and to RSVP, please contact the Hastings Extension Center at 904-692-0430 or e-mail Bonnie Wells at bcwells@ufl.edu.
