Fresh from Florida growers attended the Produce Marketing Association’s (PMA) Fresh Summit Convention and Expo in New Orleans on Oct. 19–21 to continue the tradition of showing the array of fruit and vegetable crops Florida growers produce.
Chris Denmark, development representative supervisor for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, was in Louisiana for the event at the Fresh from Florida pavilion, where he spoke with AgNet Media’s Josh McGill.
Fresh from Florida has a pavilion at the event to showcase the crops grown under the brand by members of Fresh from Florida. Denmark said Fresh from Florida members have been at PMA for approximately 30 years to present the wide variety of crops from Florida growers.
Denmark said there are 30 exhibitors at the pavilion this year, many of which are growers that have been with Fresh from Florida for many years. He said it is also exciting to get new members of Fresh from Florida to bring new ideas into the industry.
“We’ve made some changes over the last couple years,” Denmark said. “We think we have a nice, open space that works out well for all our growers.”
Participation from Fresh from Florida members, old and new, brings an array of products to the pavilion and allows people to see the variety that these members bring to the table.
Denmark and the other members of Fresh from Florida are already preparing for next year’s summit. The PMA’s 2018 Fresh Summit Convention and Expo will be held in Orlando, Florida. “We’ll be in the home state again, and we’re looking forward to it being bigger and better than ever,” he said.
