Dry Conditions Persist in Southeast

Much of the dry conditions that developed in recent weeks in the Southeast remain in Florida and Georgia, while most of Alabama is drought free, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Dry Conditions

The majority of Florida’s dry conditions are concentrated in the southern part of the state. A severe drought is being experienced in parts of Glades and Palm Beach counties, and also along the western part of the region in Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties. A moderate drought is observed in Manatee, Hardee, Highlands and Okeechobee counties and stretches as far south as Collier and Broward counties.

A few counties are abnormally dry along the Gulf of Mexico, as far west as Bay County and stretches as far east as Alachua County.

The southern part of Georgia remains either abnormally dry or moderately dry. The moderate conditions are as far west as Calhoun and Randolph counties and stretches eastward to Chatham, Effingham, Screven and Burke counties.

The southern parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama remain abnormally dry, along with parts of Henry, Barbour and Dale counties along the Alabama-Georgia line.

The entire eastern region of South Carolina is either abnormally dry or moderately dry. Most of North Carolina’s dry conditions are concentrated to the eastern region as well. It is either abnormally dry, moderately dry or severely dry.
