Drought conditions are worsening across the Southeast region. Even with much-needed rainfall this week, most of Florida and the southern parts of Alabama and Georgia are either abnormally dry or moderately dry, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
The majority of the Florida Panhandle is in a moderate drought. Those conditions stretch eastward to Putnam and Marion counties and as far south as Sarasota County. Moderately dry conditions are also being felt in Highlands, Glades, Hendry and Collier counties.
All of South Georgia is moderately dry, stretching from Early County along the Alabama-Georgia line to Screven and Effingham counties along the Atlantic Coast. Abnormally dry conditions comprise most of the central part of the state, reaching northwards to McDuffie and Columbia counties.
The southern areas of Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama remain moderately dry. Those conditions are also being felt in the southeastern part of the state, including Geneva, Houston, Coffee, Dale and Henry counties.
The southeastern region of South Carolina remains moderately dry, from Jasper County northward to Marlboro and Dillon counties and westward to Orangeburg and Bamberg counties.
The eastern area of North Carolina is moderately dry as well, Brunswick County northward to Camden and Currituck counties.
