Drought-like conditions are worsening in certain areas of the Southeast, specifically in southern Florida and southern Alabama, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The majority of Florida is either abnormally dry, moderately dry, severely dry or extremely dry, as is the case for Lee, Hendry and Collier counties in South Florida. Most of central and south Florida is severely dry, stretching as far north as Lake and Volusia counties and as far south as Monroe County.

Alabama’s abnormally dry conditions start in the Southwest part of the state in Mobile and Washington counties, stretch as far east as Barbour, Henry and Houston counties and as far north as Lowndes and Montgomery counties.

Georgia’s dry conditions are isolated to the southwest and southeast parts of the state. Moderate dry conditions are located in Decatur, Seminole, Miller, Baker, Mitchell and Grady counties in Southwest Georgia and in Echols, Clinch, Ware, Charlton and Camden counties in Southeast Georgia.

Portions of northern South Carolina are abnormally dry. The central and eastern areas of North Carolina are abnormally dry.
